![]() Not even sure which GPU is in the Mac, but I think it's at least 4GB. My late-2015 iMac's GPU may be getting bit long in tooth for some of these apps. I do have the benefit of owning both macOS and Windows PCs, but my fastest GPU is on my new ASUS laptop. Roland P-20HD Video Instant Replayer H.264 recorder/playback-device. Plus, it has a T-bar-you can never have enough T-bars! Plus the fact that I got a super-deal on it makes it even harder to resist (still haven't gotten it-only just shipped today due to the Jewish holiday-backlog). Thinking about it a bit, the P-20HD still seems like a useful tool.Įven though I can trigger, route, and record clips all within these software visualizers, I still like the tactile-cueing capability the Roland hardware offers, plus having a single, HDMI-ingest station, for everything just seems damned useful. Everything was MIDI'd and DMX'd to death, all in addition to the multi-camera, hi-def switching and routing.ĭon't know what they used for software (probably Resolume the operator I asked didn't know!), but it got me thinking about the Roland P-20HD hardware-player I just ordered in the context of using the Akai instead, triggering clips from a computer. Their set-up was huge, including a full VariLite-lit stage, 20'-high LED videowalls (which when they played the ocean clips, looked exactly like a Holodeck), an LED videowall- floor, a Technocrane and a Steadicam, all surrounded by a substantial sound-reinforcement system-these guys don't fuck around. I was inspired to look into MPC-triggered visualizers by a shoot I was on today where a massive videowall was partly controlled by an Akai APC40 (wanted to take a quick iPhone photo, but sometimes these places are weird about that). All TouchDesigner does is make a big blob that pulsates after you put in 400 hours learning it." The funniest review of TouchDesigner was on Reddit: ". modul8 is a bit quirky-looking, but perhaps a hidden gem. VDMX5's UI seemed to click pretty easily (largely thanks to a very well-produced tutorial), while Resolume's UI appears the slickest, most "Mac-like" of the bunch. ![]() Been exploring the powerhouse visualizers and watching some tutorials.
